“Got any whiskey upstairs?” Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Always. And we want to share it with a tale or two.
Why do we love whisky?
There’s something powerful about a dram. From the history of the illicit stills which saw holdings coming together to enjoy it through the winter & protect from official knowledge, to current day where you can taste something that may be upward of 20yrs old. The world has changed dramatically throughout that time, people born, loved and lost, with that cask sitting there throughout. Unmoving. Things move on, but in the whisky, you can take a step back into the past.
So what’s so inclusive about us?
Everyone is welcome here, the first rule of this whisky club is that it belongs to everyone. The second rule is “no judgement” but that’s more life applicable! It also helps if you like whisky too, but you’re more than welcome to come for the tales.
There are many clubs out there, and I have been to quite a few tastings across many of them. All have been welcoming. None have reflected my friendship circles or associates. It can be intimidating to rock up to events as the only one who doesn’t know anyone, who doesn’t look like anyone there, or have many of the same life experiences. The aim of our inclusivity is to give space to those of us who feel like “others” amongst others, and to give voices to stories that might not otherwise be heard.
So what better way to enjoy a dram than to be with strangers who feel like friends? To share some tales passed down, by great writers or word of mouth, and weave our own lives into the narrative in the process?
There’s community in the spirit, come join ours.
